Sustainability

Sustainable working, living and relaxing

Download our ‘Think Green’ booklet for an overview of what WTC The Hague does to promote sustainability.

At WTC The Hague, sustainability is one of the key values. We have, for example, an energy label A, a thermal energy storage system and we work with a healthy indoor climate, class B. This has been the reason that we, as the first multi-tenant building in the Netherlands, were granted the BREEAM-NL-In-Use Excellent certificate. In short: the climate control regulation and energy supply of our buildings are of the highest standard.

But we also look beyond our own building. We are involved in other activities, outside the WTC. These include our clean water project Join the Pipe, our participation in a pilot for shared use of business cars, and throughout the year we work closely with the Green Business Club.

Management

In its management and maintenance of the building, WTC actively seeks to improve the sustainability of the building. As the best sustainability outcomes can only be reached collaboratively, the users of the building are continuously consulted on the sustainability goals.

Water

WTC The Hague has fitted all the sanitary facilities with water saving toilets, showers and taps so that the minimum amount of water is used.

Health

WTC The Hague has a comfortable and healthy indoor climate (climate category B) that uses as much natural daylight and fresh air possible. The emission of hazardous substances is actively prevented. To meet the expectation of users, a tenant satisfaction survey is done every year.

Materials

Three times a year the structural and technical status of the whole building is assessed by an independent inspector. This means that targeted and sustainable management and maintenance can be done while solving potential issues and defects before they cause problems.

Energy

WTC The Hague is an energy efficient building that bears the A energy label. The building is heated and cooled using geothermal energy and all the electricity is green energy certified. All the tenants have their own energy meter so that they can keep track of their consumption.

Waste

The waste at WTC The Hague is separated into eight waste flows. This enables better recycling and reduces the impact on the environment.

Transport

WTC The Hague is close to various public transit connections. To encourage the use of public transit, the departure times of trams and trains and traffic congestion information is given in the Lobby. To encourage the use of electric vehicles, there are many charging points in the garage. There are also facilities for bicycles.

Land use and ecology

Acting on the advice of ecologists, various steps have been taken so that the building has a positive effect on the local flora and fauna. Examples are swift bricks, insect hotels and sedum roofing where possible.

Pollution

WTC The Hague does not use gas for heating. This limits polluting emissions. The use of environmentally friendly materials and climate control units are prioritized.
